The Shandong Agricultural University was founded in 1906 and is a multi-disciplinary university with agricultural science as its advantage and life science as a distinctive feature, covering many areas of both Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. It has 20 colleges on Agronomy,Plant Protection,Resources and Environment,Horticulture Science and Engineering,Forestry,Animal Science and Technology (College of Veterinary Medicine),Mechanical and Electronic Engineering,Economics and Management,Food Science and Engineering,Information Science and Engineering,Chemistry and Material Science, Life Sciences,Humanities and Law,Foreign Languages,Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering,Physical Education and Arts,International Exchanges,Marxism,Continuing Education,and college of Farmers.

Currently, SDAU has a fulltime enrollment of 31,000 students and 13,000 students enrolled in adult education programs. It has a total number of 2,598 staff members, among which 657 are professors and associate professors. SDAU has two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and four academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Faculty members have won a number of national and provincial titles and awards and have obtained many honors both in teaching and scientific research. Since 1982, SDAU has established academic exchanges with 27 overseas universities and scientific institutions.

The university has 10 postdoctoral research stations, 9 PhD degree programs in the first-level discipline and 49 in the second-level, 21 master degree programs in the first-level discipline and 98 in the second-level, and 75 undergraduate degree programs.

SDAU covers an area of 3.53 million square meters, among which 1.12 million square meters are building areas. The total value of instruments and equipments for teaching and scientific research amounts to 340 million yuan (RMB). The library has a collection of books of 2.23 million volumes and its data recourses amount to 54,954 GB.
